Full description:

Acyclovir Denk 5 % Cream is a medicine that blocks the growth of certain viruses (antiviral agent, viral DNA polymerase inhibitor).

Acyclovir Denk 5 % Cream is used to relieve pain and itching associated with recurrent herpes infections involving blistering in the genital area and of the lips (recurrent herpes genitalis and labialis).

What Acyclovir Denk 5% Cream contains:

The active substance is aciclovir. 1 gram of cream contains 50 mg aciclovir. The other ingedients are stearoyl macrogolglycerides, dimeticone, cetyl alcohol, white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, propylene glycol, purified water.

Possible side effects:

Like all medicines, Acyclovir Denk 5 % Cream can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The frequency of adverse drug reactions is classified as follows:

Very common: More than 1 out of 10 patients treated

Common: 1 to 10 out of 100 patients treated

Uncommon: 1 to 10 out of 1000 patients treated

Rare: 1 to 10 out of 10,000 patients treated

Very rare: Fewer than 1 out of 10,000 patients treated

Not known: The frequency cannot be assessed on the basis of the available data

 

To date, the following side effects have been observed:

Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders

Uncommon: Upon application of the cream the patient may experience a temporary burning or prickling sensation. Drying, itching and desquamation of the treated skin have been observed.

Rare: Reddening, contact dermatitis have been reported on application of the cream. Allergic tests however showed that the additives in the cream and not the ingredient acyclovir were, in most cases, the cause. Contact dermatitis is probable if the above mentioned side-effects are more severe and also affect skin which has not been directly treated with the cream. In that case contact your physician.

Immune system disorders

Very rare: Immediate-type hypersensitivity reactions including angioedema (Quincke’s edema, swelling of the skin, especially in the facial area).

How to use:

Acyclovir Denk 5 % Cream should be applied with a wadding stick, by applying the amount of cream required to cover the infected parts of the skin.

When applying the cream, not only the visible signs of herpes (pustules, swelling, reddening) should be covered, but also the surrounding area.

If applied by hands, the hands should be washed thoroughly before and after application, in order to avoid bacterial infection of the damaged skin or transmitting the virus to other areas of the skin or mucous membrane.
