Anastrozole Denk 1 mg contains an active substance called anastrozole. It belongs to a group of medicines called “aromatase inhibitors”. Anastrozole Denk 1 mg is used to treat breast cancer in women after the menopause.
Anastrozole Denk 1 mg works by lowering the amount of oestrogen, a hormone produced by your body. This is done by inhibiting a natural substance (an enzyme) in your body called “aromatase”.

What Anastrazole denk contains:
The active substance is anastrozole. Each film-coated tablet contains 1 mg anastrozole.
The other ingredients are: lactose monohydrate, povidone (K30), sodium starch glycolate (type A), magnesium stearate [vegetable], hypromellose, titanium dioxide and macrogol 400.
Possible side effects:
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking Anastrozole Denk 1 mg and seek urgent medical treatment, if you experience any of the following serious but very rare side effects:
- A very serious skin reaction with ulcers and blisters on the skin. This is called “Stevens-Johnson syndrome”.
- Allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions with swelling of the throat which may cause swallowing or breathing problems. This reaction is called “angioedema”.
Very common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 patients)
- Headache.
- Hot flushes.
- Nausea.
- Skin rash.
- Joint pain or stiffness.
- Inflammation in the joints (arthritis).
- Feeling weak.
- Decrease in bone density (osteoporosis).
- Depression.
Common side effects (may affect 1 to 10 in 100 patients)
- Loss of appetite.
- Raised or high levels of a fatty substance in your blood called cholesterol. This can be determined by a blood test.
- Drowsiness.
- Carpal tunnel syndrome (tingling, pain, feeling cold, weakness in parts of the hand).
- Tickling, tingling or numbness of skin, loss/lack of taste.
- Diarrhoea.
- Vomiting.
- Changes in blood tests showing how well your liver is working.
- Thinning hair (hair loss).
- Allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, which may also affect the face, lips or tongue.
- Bone pain.
- Vaginal dryness.
- Bleeding from the vagina (usually in the first few weeks of treatment – if the bleeding persists, talk to your doctor).
- Muscle pain.
Uncommon side effects (may affect 1 to 10 in 1,000 patients)
- Changes in specific blood tests showing how your liver is working (gamma-GT and bilirubin).
- Inflammation of the liver (hepatitis).
- Rash or hives.
- Trigger finger (a condition in which your finger or thumb gets stuck in a bent position).
- Increase in the calcium levels in your blood. If you experience nausea, vomiting or thirst, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist, as your blood values may need to be checked
Rare side effects (may affect 1 to 10 in 10,000 patients)
- Rare skin inflammation, which may include red spots or blistering.
- Rash caused by hypersensitivity (the cause may be an allergic or allergic-type reaction).
- Inflammation of the small blood vessels leading to red or purple discolouration of the skin. Very rarely, joint, stomach and kidney pain may occur as symptoms; this side effect is known as “Schoenlein-Henoch purpura”.
Effects on your bones
Anastrozole Denk 1 mg lowers the amount of oestrogen, a hormone in your body. This may reduce the mineral content of your bones. As a result, your bones may lose strength and tend to break more easily. Your doctor will treat these risks according to treatment guidelines on the maintenance of bone health in women after the menopause. You should talk to your doctor about the risks and treatment options.

How to take:
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- The recommended dose is 1 film-coated tablet once daily.
- Try to take your tablet at the same time every day.
- Swallow the film-coated tablet whole with water.
- It does not matter whether you take Anastrozole Denk 1 mg before, during or after a meal.
Take Anastrozole Denk 1 mg for as long as your doctor or pharmacist recommends it. This treatment is a long-term therapy and you may have to take Anastrozole Denk 1 mg over several years. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
